Onze missie en visie

Kletskoppen richt zich op het leren, informeren en amuseren rondom taal. We organiseren activiteiten om kinderen van diverse achtergronden de wetenschap achter taal te laten ontdekken. Waarom? Om hun plezier in taal te vergroten, hun blik op de wetenschap te verruimen, en hun eigen (meer)talige kennis beter te waarderen. Taal is veel meer dan spelling en kan ook nog leuk zijn!

Tijdens onze festivals en roadshows kunnen kinderen van 2 tot 12 jaar en hun (groot)ouders deelnemen aan interactieve demonstraties, spannende taalspelletjes en voorleessessies in verschillende talen. Naast een tweejaarlijks festival in Bibliotheek Mariënburg in Nijmegen organiseren wij ook festivals en roadshows elders in het land, bijvoorbeeld in Den Haag en Heerlen, vaak in combinatie met voortrajecten. Dit zijn activiteiten in de aanloop naar een festival voor kinderen die minder snel met wetenschap in aanraking komen of om andere redenen normaal gesproken niet zo gauw naar zo’n festival zouden komen. Kletskoppen is het enige festival dat zich exclusief op taal én wetenschap richt, en ook het enige festival over taal voor kinderen.

Onder de naam Kletskoppen in de Klas verzorgen wij ook lessen op (basis)scholen. Tijdens deze lessen maken leerlingen uit groep 6 t/m 8 kennis met taalonderzoek en leren ze experimenteren met taal. Het gaat daarbij om thema’s als meertaligheid, babytaal, taal & genetica, en talen van de wereld. Dankzij een subsidie van de Nationale Wetenschapsagenda (NWA) richt Kletskoppen zich vanaf 2024 ook op nieuwkomerskinderen van 9 tot 14 jaar. Onder de naam Taal on Tour gaan we, in samenwerking met IMC Weekendschool, onze lessen verder ontwikkelen voor deze doelgroep.

Kletskoppen is een initiatief van de Radboud Universiteit en het Max Planck Instituut voor Psycholinguïstiek, beiden gevestigd in Nijmegen. Wij werken samen met verschillende maatschappelijke partners zoals bibliotheken, de VoorleesExpress, en IMC Weekendschool, en ook met taalonderzoekers van andere universiteiten in het land. Kletskoppen wordt financieel ondersteund door de Radboud Universiteit en het MPI, en door subsidies van o.a. de Nationale Wetenschapsagenda, gemeente Nijmegen, en LOT (Landelijke Onderzoeksschool Taalwetenschap).
